Associate Program Overview
RF|Binder’s prestigious Associate’s Program introduces recent college graduates to the field of Public Relations. Associates are involved in:
- Media Relations and Social Media
- Client material development
- Creative brainstorm sessions
- Research and monitoring
- Events and planning
- Training seminars and workshops
RF|Binder seeks entry-level candidates who are eager to learn about the public relations business and are interested in a creative, challenging, fast-paced, and stimulating environment. Applicants for the Associate Program must have a Bachelor degree; applicants with MBAs or Masters Degrees are also welcome to apply.
Applicants with degrees in all academic majors are considered for the Associate program. Our employees have backgrounds in the liberal arts, sciences, and business. We are seeking strategic and creative thinkers with a firm commitment to the Associate Program.

Application / Selection Process
Submit resume (must include GPA) along with a cover letter introducing yourself and explaining why have chosen a career in public relations and why you are interested in working for RF|Binder. If your application is selected, you will be contacted for a phone interview. Upon successful completion of the phone interview, you will be given a writing assignment in which you will be asked to write an essay of no more than 1,000 words outlining your public relations recommendations based on a case study. Phone interviews and the subsequent writing assignment will be conducted on a rolling basis.
Upon successful completion of the essay assignment, candidates will be invited into the RF|Binder offices in New York City (at the candidate’s own expense) for in-person interviews and to do a writing exercise designed to demonstrate your writing skills and creativity based on specific information given to you, and your ability to prepare two documents within a strict deadline. The timing for this phase of the Program is expected to take place from mid-March through early April, subject to a candidate’s schedule. If an in-person interview cannot be arranged, then this phase will be conducted via Skype.
Upon final review of all application materials, those Applicants who will be selected for the 2016 Program will be contacted by no later than May 1, 2016 with an employment offer.

Q: When does the Associate Program start?
A: For 2016, the Program is expected to start on Monday, June 11, 2016, but may be subject to change.
Q: Is this a full-time, paid position?
A: Yes. Our staff enjoys competitive compensation, a full benefits package, an innovative and progressive training and development program and a supportive performance management and mentoring plan. This position includes paid days off (vacation, personal, sick, summer Fridays, holidays) and are pro-rated based on date of hire.
Q: What are the business hours?
A: Our standard work day is eight hours a day, five days a week. Our official business hours are 9am to 6pm, and you are entitled to an hour for lunch. However, due to the nature of our client work, overtime may be necessary to address work flows encountered during peak periods or resulting from unanticipated events. Lunch hours can be erratic; you may be asked to work on weekends and holidays. It all depends on client needs.

Q: What is a typical day like at RF|Binder?
A: While not every day can be described as “typical,” as an Associate you can expect to build on your communications skills and experience across many aspects of communications and client service activities, including, but not limited to:
- Working on one-three accounts
- Handling basic research of client’s business and industry
- Interacting with external audiences to convey the client’s message
- Pitching relevant media and placing stories on specific projects
- Writing and distributing press releases, bios, fact sheets, pitch letters, coordinating specific events, etc., with direction from supervisor(s)
- Creating and maintaining media lists
- Monitoring media to report coverage that affects the client’s business
- Assisting with various administrative tasks
- Assisting in client administration duties such as billing and activity reports
- Supervising interns on an ad hoc project basis
