Energy and the Environment
The professionals in RF|Binder Partners' Energy and Environmental Practice have worked with clients on energy and environmental communications since the 1970s, when these issues were first emerging as causes for concern. Always overlapping, environmental and energy issues today often merge together completely, becoming one of the defining issues of our era, and RF|Binder continues to be at the forefront.
Until relatively recently, only certain business sectors, such as chemicals, heavy industry, energy companies, were focused on energy and the environment, most often as the result of a crisis, such as an oil spill, chemical contamination or nuclear accident. Today, driven to a large extent by climate change, literally every business sector, including financial services and consumer products, must focus on energy and environmental communications. While most businesses can save money through greater energy efficiency, some businesses are finding ways to make money with new environmentally related technologies and products.
This historic shift in business focus towards energy and the environment requires the experienced and skilled public relations professionals at RF|Binder who understand both the opportunities and the significant pitfalls inherent in energy and environmental communications. RF|Binder's professionals in the Energy and Environmental Practice understand that these communications must be built upon the firm bedrock of science, and many on our team have strong science backgrounds.
We have counseled clients on the full range of energy and environmental issues that include, for example in the environmental area, deforestation, recycling, electronic waste, ozone depletion, water quality, air pollution, soils, alternative fuels, indoor air pollution and chemical contaminants. In the energy area we have worked on issues including alternative fuels for transportation, nuclear power, electromagnetic fields and health, electrical transmission infrastructure, oil reserves reporting as well as solar and wind power. And, of course, we are involved in climate change, where energy and the environment most clearly converge.
We also are providing counsel in newly emerging areas of environmental concern, such as banking, carbon trading, food and beverages, and consumer products. Our work includes helping our clients to form relationships with environmental NGOs for mutual benefit, an increasingly important path to follow in progressive energy and environmental communications. We are skilled in interfacing with the public sector on energy and environmental issues, often working closely with our clients' lobbyists and sometimes directly with elected officials and regulators.
